Portfolio Value Update - July 2016

Portfolio Value
As of July 31, 2016 my dividend portfolio balance stands at $34,447.00. That’s an increase of $1,027 from the previous month. I’m pleased with my portfolio performance even though it got a slight hit for the last three days. Just last week my portfolio value exceeded $35K for the first time in my investment journey. Every 5K for me is a new milestone. I also received the highest monthly dividend so far. I’m getting very close to that $200/month dividend.

Dividends
Dividend income is a passive income for which I don’t have to work for. In July, I received a total of $183.83 in dividends vs $141.49 for the same period a year ago. That's an increase of $42 or 30% on year-over-year basis.

My total Year-to-Date dividend income for 2016 is $1,169.96. Based on my forecast, I should receive around $2,000 in dividends this year. It doesn’t sound like a big amount but it’s growing every year. All dividends are reinvested into dividend paying stocks.

Contributions
In July, I added $800 of fresh capital to my TFSA account. The maximum amount that I can contribute in 2016 is $5,500. Since I have contribution room from prior years, I will continue to add $800 per month until I reach my maximum contribution.

My Investment Account (TFSA)

My portfolio consists of 27 Canadian dividend paying stocks. Most of my stocks pay dividends on monthly basis. This allows me to collect dividends and reinvest them into dividend paying stocks more rapidly.

Transactions
Purchased 70 shares of Artis REIT (AX.UN.TO) for $13.69 per share.

  1. Looks like your portfolio and dividends are rocking and rolling. Always nice to see a year over year gain in your passive income stream. Nice to see you are continuing to make purchases too in this high market.

  2. Hey DivHut! Thanks for stopping by. Can't wait to read your own July report. I buy stocks each month. Artis REIT still trades at discount to books and if it drops from here I will just add a bit more.

  3. That's a great YoY increase and very solid movement in the right direction for portfolio value as well, :). I've recently increased my cash holding, as I can't seem to find very undervalued buys currently. Keep it up!

    1. Thanks for your comments. Yes, these days it's hard to find good value stock. There are always sales in December. So keep on adding to your cash for the tax-loss sale.
