Portfolio Value Update - April 2020

Portfolio Value
In April, my stock portfolio value increased by $4,980 and closed at $72,827. The portfolio is recovering slowly from the sharp drop of $19K last month. I have allocated over $9,000 for new stock purchases in a regular account as my TFSA is maxed out. Please note that my portfolio value excludes the cash balance.

Dividends
Dividends received in April 2020: $407.79
Dividends received in April 2019: $333.64
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $74.15 or 22%
Year-To-Date Dividend Income: $1,719.11

The dividend income increased by 22 percent from last year, mostly attributed to new stock purchases, dividend reinvestments and dividend increases. I received a dividend increase from Restaurant Brands (QSR.TO), Killam Apartments (KMP.UN.TO), and Gibson Energy (GEI.TO). Diversified Royalties (DIV.TO) in the other hand, had to reduce its dividend for the time being.

AdSense Earnings
Adsense earnings from the blog: $0.95
Adsense earnings from YouTube: $143.78
Total AdSense earnings: $144.73

Adsense earnings increased by 122 percent from last year from $65.12 to $144.73. I’m constantly improving my YouTube channel, adding more videos and growing the following. The channel has finally reached 5,000 subscribers.

Transactions
I did not make any transactions in April, but I’m looking forward to adding some stocks very soon.

  2. Hey buddy, nice to see that portfolio value start to go back up. Although with cash set aside to invest I guess we both want the market to drop back down. Those Adsense earnings are outstanding keep up the great work!

    1. Well if the markets don't drop in May, I will just set aside more cash for summer months. Investors are just too optimistics that the economy will just go back to normal. Many jobs are already lost forever. That will have a domino effect on spending. Now that we are getting close to summer and the virus issue is not resolved yet, I'm assuming that people won't travel or go on vacation. That will be a huge hit on tourism industries. Anyway, time will tell.

  4. Congrats on a solid month. This is my first time here. I love your profit growth. In April I only earned $4.33 in dividends. I'm starting over with dividend investing, so I have a long way to go. I look forward to seeing how much dividends you will receive in May.
Could you tell me where it is better to invest today? Thank you, waiting for an answer!

    1. Hi Daniel. Welcome to the blog and thanks for your comment. I'm wishing you all the best in dividend investing. It's a long journey, but if you stay consistent and invest every month, you will reach your goals. As far as investing decision goes, I always recommend to invest in companies that offer products and services that people can't live without.
