Portfolio Value Update - September 2017

Portfolio Value
As of September 30, 2017 my investment portfolio balance stood at $47,625.76. That’s an increase of $1,614.58 from last month. It was the best performing month of 2017 in terms of capital appreciation. We have three months until the end of the year and I think I will reach my goal of $50K.

Dividends
Dividend income is a passive income for which I don’t have to work for. I simply invest in different corporations and collect dividends for owning the stock. In September, I received a total of $227.10 in dividends vs $192.63 for the same period a year ago. That's an increase of $34.47 or 18% on year-over-year basis. My cumulative dividend income for the year is $1,919.19, surpassing the total dividend income received for the whole year of 2015.

Contributions
In September, I added $800 of fresh capital to my TFSA account. The maximum amount that I can contribute in 2017 is $5,500. Since I have contribution room from prior years, I will continue to add $800 per month until I reach my maximum contribution.

My Investment Account (TFSA)
My portfolio consists of 29 Canadian dividend paying stocks. Most of my stocks pay dividends on monthly basis. This allows me to collect dividends and reinvest them into dividend paying stocks more rapidly.

Transactions
On September 21, 2017 I purchased 32 units in Canadian Apartment Properties (CAR.UN.TO). I decided to invest more capital into apartment buildings so Canadian Apartment was the best choice for me to get that exposure. They have a very high occupancy rate because their apartment buildings are well located.

Canadian Apartment REIT is trading at 9.28 P/E ratio, 1x book value, and has a dividend yield of 3.76%. I purchased 32 units @ $33.31 per unit. This purchase will increase my monthly dividend income by $3.41.

Online Income
PTC Sites: $13.00   |   Surveys: $1.00   |   Adsense: $12.99
Total income from online sources: $26.99

PTC and Surveys income is down from last month because I spent a lot less time on PTC sites and surveys. I did only 1 survey for the whole month. I have a bunch to do in my mailbox, but was too lazy to do them. One day I will catch up. The adsense revenue however, is up. I spent more time creating videos for my YouTube channel which resulted in higher views.

    1. Hey Matt! You're right. Probably next month I will surpass last year's income. It's amazing how exciting dividends can increase the purchasing power.
