Purchased more shares of AltaGas (ALA.TO)

Hello folks. Today I made another purchase in AltaGas company. I couldn’t resist the sell-off of ALA stock and decided to take advantage of the low share price. I purchased 39 shares for $25.57 per share. This was my third purchase in this stock and my position in AltaGas is now full.

I started to accumulate ALA shares in 2016 by purchasing 30 shares for $33 per share. Later in 2017, I purchased another batch of 30 shares for $31 per share. In April 2018, I purchased my final batch of 39 shares. My total position of ALA consists of 99 shares.

AltaGas is a North American energy infrastructure company based in Calgary, Alberta. The company operates in three business segments: gas, power generation, and utilities. The company is in the process of acquiring WGL Holdings

So that was my purchase for the month. I’m glad I finally filled my position in AltaGas. Next month I'm planning to buy more shares in Brookfield Property Partners if the share price stays low.

Great company and nice Dividend yield. Here's hoping they close on that deal and expect their stock to rebound nicely!

  4. I was not familiar with this company so thanks for posting and pointing it out. I will look further into it but just a quick glance, a few thing that concerns me is retained earnings are negative on consistent basis and treasury stocks are positive that means they keep issuing stocks for funding which is not entirely atypical for utility companies that is growing so I will look further before pulling trigger to see if the cost of growth is justified or not. Definitely looks interesting.

    Thanks.
    TDK.

    1. Hi TDK! You pointed out a good point about retained earnings. I will have to check that out. They are also in the process of acquiring an utility company and had to incur lots of debt. Maybe the market did not like the deal and the stock is lagging behind. I have all the time to wait for the stock to recover.

  5. I used to own a small 200sh position in ALA but sold @ $26.92. It seems to be a favourite with the investing community for yield but has disappointed on the growth and earnings side. One day I'm sure it will work out. I also believe I bought it higher than when I sold it.

    2. I doubt it. The yield is too high and dividends have not kept up with the capital erosion of the stock. The market is still signalling that they don't believe their growth projections. However, it looks very oversold and under loved at the moment.
I would rather put my money in a bank, utility or telco but that's just me at a different stage of life. Good luck my friend:)

    3. The stocks in general will be under pressure for a while because of the rising interest rates. Banks should do well but they are a bit expensive right now. I'm also looking at Enbridge for $38 bucks is a great buy!
