Dividend Portfolio Update - March 2016

Portfolio Value
By the end of March 31, 2016, my dividend portfolio balance was at $29,667.06. That’s an increase of $2,896 from the previous month. Most of the increase came from organic growth. At some point, in mid-March my portfolio value almost crossed the $30K mark. Maybe I get that boost in April!

Dividend income is a passive income for which I don’t have to work for. In March, I received a total of $156.94 in dividends vs $109.76 for the same period a year ago. That's an increase of $47.18 or 43% on year-over-year basis.

My total Year-to-Date dividend income for 2016 is $487.61. Based on my forecast I should get around $2,000 in dividends in 2016. It doesn’t sound like a big amount but it’s growing every year. All dividends are reinvested into dividend paying stocks.

In March, I added $800 of fresh capital to my TFSA account. The maximum amount that I can contribute in 2016 is $5,500. Since I have contribution room from prior years I will continue to add $800 per month until I reach my maximum contribution.

My Investment Account (Tax Free Savings Account)
My portfolio consists of 25 Canadian dividend paying stocks. Most of my stocks pay dividends on monthly basis. This allows me to collect dividends and reinvest them into dividend paying stocks more rapidly.

In March I sold two companies and I bought two companies.
Sold 35 shares of PSK.TO (Prairiesky Roayalty) @ $26.41 per share.
Sold 85 shares of FRU.TO (Freehold Royalties) @ $11.60 per share.
Bought 40 shares of AD.TO (Alaris Royalty) @ $24.99 per share.
Bought 32 shares of MG.TO (Magna) $54.00 per share.

  1. Great monthly net worth increase. March was a fine month for stocks. Also nice job on your March dividend income. A forecast of $2k in one year is serious money.

    1. Hi IH! Thanks for stopping by and for your support. March was a good month for stocks. We'll see how April and May will play out. We might see some weakness before the quiet summer months. Take care!

  2. Nice increase in your March dividends. Just goes to show that you are headed in the right direction. I'm not familiar with any of the names you mention in your transactions. I guess I mainly follow the Canadian banks. In any case, great job, keep it up and focus on those solid dividend payers.

  3. Congrats on the great month keep up the great work.
