Portfolio Value Update - November 2023

Portfolio Value
In November, my portfolio value increased by $10,020 from $138,005 to $148,025. That was a healthy recovery compared to the last two months. Some of the stocks that made a big difference in portfolio value gains are: Alaris is up by 23%; BMO is up by 9.5%, Canadian Apartment REIT is up by 19%; CIBC is up by 16%; Great-West Lifeco is up by 16%; Power Corporation is up by 13%; Telus is up by 12%. Looking forward to see how things will play out in December.

Dividends received in November 2022: $655.76
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $68.56 or 10%

Portfolio Value Update - October 2023

Portfolio Value
In October, my portfolio value decreased by $5,500 from $143,505 to $138,005. October was another month of big declines but not as bad as September. In November, my portfolio value should increase because the stocks have bounced back. Just in the past 4 trading days, the TSX Composite Index is up by a thousand points. Let’s see how November plays out.

Dividends
Dividends received in October 2023: $719.96
Dividends received in October 2022: $653.13
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $66.83 or 10%
Year-To-Date Dividend Income: $6,999.70

Portfolio Value Update - September 2023

Portfolio Value
In September, my portfolio value decreased by $8,370 from $151,875 to $143,505. That’s a big drop for my portfolio. Too bad I don’t have any contribution room to invest in my TFSA. I’d love to pick up some of the cheap bank stocks. I will continue reinvesting the dividends on monthly basis until next year.

Dividends
Dividends received in September 2023: $725.22
Dividends received in September 2022: $647.13
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $78.09 or 12%
Year-To-Date Dividend Income: $6,279.74

Dividend income never disappoints. That’s a great chunk of change and a good year over year growth considering that I’m only reinvesting the dividends. Next month however, I will receive a bit less because one of my REITs reduced the distribution. This will result in a drop of around $20 per month.

Portfolio Value Update - August 2023

Portfolio Value
In August, my portfolio value decreased by $2,402 from $154,277 to $151,875. The TSX index dipped a bit in mid-August, but then recovered quickly towards the end of the month. The reason my portfolio value is down is due to poor performance of the Canadian banks. The quarters weren’t the best and the share prices started to drop, dragging my portfolio down, down, down!! But I’m not worried about our banks. I will keep buying the dips!

Dividends
Dividends received in August 2023: $727.29
Dividends received in August 2022: $642.09

In the beginning of the month, the market was volatile but then it stabilized towards the end of the month. The TSX index gained about 900 points from the bottom to the peak, helping my portfolio to gain value as well.

July was a great month for passive income. I’m always happy to see a double digit growth in year-over-year income.

Another month behind us and it’s time to report the June update. In June, my portfolio value increased by $992 from $151,634 to $152,626. The markets were volatile, but the last week of June played out in my favour, helping my portfolio to lock in some gains.

Dividends received in June 2022: $618.36
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $87.34 or 14%

Portfolio Value Update - May 2023

Portfolio Value

Another month behind us and it’s time to report the May update. In May, my portfolio value decreased by $2,983 from $154,617 to $151,634. The market pulled back, but it looks like it’s on its way for recovery. Generally, the summer months are slow, but I’d be glad if my portfolio recovered some loses from May.

Dividends

Dividends received in May 2022: $605.76
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $86.53 or 14%

May was another great month for passive income. The dividends are inching closer to a steady $700 a month. I think I will cross that mark next month.

Portfolio Value Update - April 2023

Portfolio Value
In April, my portfolio value increased by $3,904 from $150,713 to $154,617. The markets continued to recover helping my portfolio get to the same level it was a month ago. The stocks that performed very well this month were: Bell (BCE.TO), Canadian Utilities (CU.TO), Capital Power (CPX.TO), Fortis (FTS.TO), North West (NWC.TO), and Restaurant Brands (QSR.TO).

Dividends received in April 2023: $690.09

Portfolio Value Update - March 2023

Portfolio Value
In March, my portfolio value decreased by $4,206 from $154,919 to $150,713. I’m surprised to see such a steep decline, although the TSX has been on a recovery mode for the past two weeks.

Dividends
Dividends received in March 2023: $676.62
Dividends received in March 2022: $577.97
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $98.65 or 17%
Year-To-Date Dividend Income: $2,018.23

March was another great month for passive income. The dividends are inching closer to a steady $700 a month. It’s a nice chunk of change. Consider our family grocery budget is covered.

Portfolio Value Update - February 2023

Portfolio Value
In February, my portfolio value decreased by $168 from $155,087 to $154,919. It was a slow month for stocks. Many stocks have traded sideways without a clear indication if we’re rallying or pulling back. It looks like the markets want to rally into the spring, but the Q4 earnings are kind of disappointing. The banks reported lower earnings either because of the write-offs or because of provisions for credit losses. We’ll see how March plays out.

Dividends
Dividends received in February 2023: $670.93
Dividends received in February 2022: $548.57
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $122.36 or 22%
Year-To-Date Dividend Income: $1,341.61

Portfolio Value Update - January 2023

Portfolio Value
In January, my portfolio value increased by $13,538 from $142,269 to $155,087. It was probably the biggest monthly increase of all times. Since the beginning on the new year, the markets rallied to 6-month high, stretching out the valuations of some of the stocks. I did however add $3,500 to my TFSA account, the rest of the increase came from stock appreciation.

Dividends
Dividends received in January 2023: $670.68
Dividends received in January 2022: $552.64
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $118.04 or 21%
Year-To-Date Dividend Income: $670.68

The new year started off on a good note. I’m really happy to see the dividend growth at over 20% and slowly approaching to $700/mo milestone which I hope to reach this year.

Portfolio Value Update - December 2022

Happy New Year everyone! Wishing you all the best in 2023!

Portfolio Value
In December, my portfolio value decreased by $3,595 from $145,864 to $142,269. The year-end selling has dragged my portfolio down and it’s actually back to the same level it was a year ago. But I'm glad that we can contribute an additional $6,500 starting next month. This will boost the value and the payouts!

Dividends
Dividends received in December 2022: $661.15
Dividends received in December 2021: $620.15
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $41 or 6.61%
Year-To-Date Dividend Income: $7,405.42

Please note that this year I did not receive any special dividends in December, that’s why the YoY dividend growth is only 6%.
