Portfolio Value Update - November 2018

Portfolio Value
As of November 30, 2018 my investment portfolio balance stood at $62,184.00. Just like expected, the stock market held up pretty well in November, which contributed to positive return. My portfolio value increased by $486.00 from last month.

Dividends
Dividends received in November 2018: $311.61
Dividends received in November 2017: $222.71
Year-Over-Year Dividend Growth: $88.90 or 40%
Year-To-Date Dividend Income: $2,943.92

I broke a new record and achieved a new milestone of $300+/month from regular dividends. All thanks to quarterly dividend received from Laurentian Bank in November. The growth rate is insane. Yes, the majority of growth came from new stock purchases, but dividend increases from existing positions had a big effect as well.

Adsense Earnings
Adsense earnings from blog: $3.99
Adsense earnings from YouTube: $107.25
Total Adsense earnings: $111.24

Since my YouTube channel is back on track to make money, it’s a good idea to report my monthly Adsense earnings as well. As you can see, the blog doesn’t bring much of advertisement revenue. The big chunk comes from YouTube. The good thing about YouTube is you make the video once, and the same video can earn money every month.

It’s also worth mentioning that 70% of YouTube earnings are attributed to one particular video. Last year, I made a video of houses decorated in Christmas lights. Because of the holiday season, that particular video is getting a lot of views. After the holidays, there will be less people searching for Christmas lights decorations. Then I expect the monthly earnings from YouTube to be around $40.

Contributions
In November I transferred $700 to my TFSA account. I will transfer another $700 in December and will have $900 left in my contribution room that will be rolled over to the next year.

Transactions
On November 16th, I bought 100 shares of Pizza Pizza (TSE:PZA) for $9.49 per share. I plan to build a solid position in Pizza Pizza and the current low price is the perfect opportunity for me to accumulate those shares.

Personal Achievements
  • I bought a newer car and fixed it. It passed the inspection so it’s up and running.
  • I sold my old Honda Civic for $1900. The Acura upgrade ended up costing me $5,000. It feels good not to have monthly car payments. The Acura should last at least 5 years, but I may sell it next year and buy another project car. This way I will roll over my capital from car to car.
  • Reached a new dividend milestone
  • Became a YouTube Partner again

---

That’s it for now. Looking forward to see what December brings. It will be a tax-loss selling month so I’m not expecting any positive returns. Oh, and a special dividend from First National will add significant earnings to my dividend income.

  2. Great month German. Super impressive growth in dividends. You did awesome in Youtube earnings. Even though I gave up on Pizza Pizza I think you made a nice buy as I'm sure the business will turn around soon. Can't wait to see how you do in December. Happy Holidays.

    1. Thanks, Matt! Yeah, it will take some time, but Pizza Pizza will turn around. It's a solid business and the downside at these level is very limited. December dividends should be around $400 because of the special dividend from First National.

  4. My wife has been telling me to create and focus on a YouTube channel but I don't feel like doing it. I feel it is lots of work. However, seems blogging is even more work. Maybe I should listen to her and have her as my editor. Haha

I thought of buying Pizza Pizza and considering it. Seems it is still hovering around the same price you bought it 2 years ago but the dividends are very nice. How is yours doing?

    1. I'm cool with Pizza Pizza stock. Too bad it didn't drop during the pandemic otherwise I would have added more.

As for the youtube, don't start a channel just for the sake of doing youtube. If you have a passion for something then your channel will do well. Yes, it's ton of work in the beginning and get ready to work for free pretty much for one year, but if your videos are helpful and watched a lot, you will make a good side hustle.
