Portfolio Value Update - December 2020

Welcome back to my blog. I hope you are doing well. If you’re new here and don’t know what I do, I invest in dividend paying stock to generate extra income so that overtime I could generate enough to cover my living expenses. Every month I report my portfolio progress and dividend income. December 2020 is in the books and it’s the time to report my progress. So here it is.

Portfolio Value
In December, my stock portfolio value increased by $458 and closed at $100,993. All of the increase came from stock appreciation. I did not add any new funds to my account in December as my TFSA account is maxed out. In January 2021 I will have an additional $6000 of contribution room for my TFSA and I plan to top it off right away.

Dividends
Dividends received in December 2020: $470.70
Dividends received in November 2019: $491.80
Year-Over-Year Dividend (Negative) Growth: $21.10 or 4.29%
Year-To-Date Dividend Income: $5,014.91

The negative growth looks bad, but that’s because last year in December, I received over $135 in special dividends from two companies. If you exclude the special dividend, I would have had a positive growth. The year-to-date divided income of $5,014 is in line with my expectations. I was forecasting $5K in dividends for 2020.

Ads Revenue
AdSense Revenue from YouTube: $1,463.80

For the second month in a row, my YouTube channel has crossed the $1,000 mark. It’s worth noting that October, November, and December are historically the best performing months. January’s are usually the worst months on YouTube because the cost of ads drops and so is YouTubers earnings. I expect to earn between $700 and $900 in January 2021 from YouTube.

December YouTube Stats:
  • 645.7K Views
  • +2K Subscribers
  • $1,463.80 Revenue
  • Daily Average $47.22

Performance Charts

December 2020 Summary
Portfolio Value: $100,993
Dividend Income: $470.70
AdSense Income: $1,463.80
Combined Income (excluding day job): $1,934.50

Plans for 2021
  • Same as 2020 – stay the course
  • Max out my TFSA
  • Invest as much as possible in a regular account
  • Grow my YouTube Channel by uploading regularly
  • Reinvest dividends in dividend payment stocks
